Mayer Blasts Rau-Hatton for Fiscal Mismanagement

Proposes Pay Freeze for Political Appointees to Help Plug Leaking Township Budget

(Blackwood, NJ) – Mayoral candidate Dave Mayer today blasted tax-raising incumbent Cindy Rau-Hatton for putting her political appointees ahead of Gloucester Township taxpayers. Rau-Hatton proposed higher taxes for local residents and recommended sending out tax bills early instead of putting an end to pay increases for her political appointees. Last month, residents were told that the Township's finances were in such dire straits that charging homeowners estimated taxes was the only way to make sure the government could continue paying its bills.

"It is outrageous that Rau-Hatton is calling for higher taxes at a time families are struggling to make ends meet instead of providing real leadership to bring fiscal responsibility back to our local government," said Mayer. "Mayors across our state moved months ago to hold the line on spending through wage freezes and other measures, but not in Gloucester Township."

Mayer said Rau-Hatton's failure to put cash-strapped taxpayers first shows the need for change in Gloucester Township. "We need a mayor who understands the plight of our middle class families and will work to help them keep their homes, and make ends meet instead of taxing them out of town. Families are doing more with less, and our government should do the same," Mayer concluded.
